Fujitsu and Mitsubishi are our preferred brands for air source, mini-split heat pumps. The two are very close in their offerings, but there are a few differences.

Fujitsu has been in business for over 35 years, and is one of the most reputable companies in home comfort solutions.

Fujitsu "single" units (one outside unit matched to one inside unit) tend to be a little less expensive than Mitsubishi, and until very recently produced quite a bit more heat at lower temperatures than Mitsubishi.

Fujitsu has recently introduced a new "multi" line (one outdoor unit matched with more than one indoor unit) which is rated to -13F and puts out an impressive amount of heat.

In the 1st Qtr, Mitsubishi jumped ahead of Fujitsu on their warranty, increasing their standard warranty from "7 and 5" to "10 and 10", with a 12 year warranty for Diamond contractors (installers who undergone Mitsubishi training and meet a certain minimum number of units sold per year). Fujitsu has now matched that, so now, as before, there is no significant difference between the two brands in terms of warranty (although from a contractor's point of view, Mitsubishi can be easier to deal with on a warranty claim). To get the 12 year warranty for each brand, the customer must use a preferred installer and register their equipment on line. Goggin Energy is a preferred installer for both brands, a rarity in our market.

Mitsubishi multi units are more efficient at lower temperatures but tend to put out less heat. Their new multi unit line is rated to -15F, and won't actually stop operating until -18F.

That said, Mitsubishi multis tend to be more expensive than multi unit Fujitsus. So, we tend to prefer Fujitsu for "small" multis, and Mitsubishi for "large" multis. But they are both great companies, and we are happy to quote you both brands.
